OUR IMPACT WINDOWS

How Impact Windows Work

Impact windows are engineered using a combination of strong, laminated glass layers and a durable frame. This design allows them to absorb the force of impacts without shattering, keeping your home safe from flying debris during storms. Even if the outer glass breaks, the inner layer remains intact, preventing dangerous shards from entering your home. Our windows are rigorously tested to meet Florida’s strict windstorm codes, ensuring that your home is protected under the harshest conditions.

Common Questions About Impact Windows

Impact windows, a must-have for Florida homes, are designed to withstand the state’s notorious hurricanes and extreme weather. Unlike regular windows, they feature reinforced glass and durable frames that resist shattering upon impact. Even if the glass cracks, a protective interlayer keeps the window intact, maintaining your home’s safety and reducing damage.

Yes. Impact windows are not just tough—they’re energy-efficient too! Designed with insulated glass and advanced coatings, they help regulate indoor temperatures by keeping the heat out and the cool air in. Impact windows reduce your reliance on air conditioning, leading to lower energy bills.  Another feature of impact windows is that they block harmful UV rays, protecting your interiors from fading while maintaining a comfortable.

Impact windows are built to last, often with a lifespan of 20 to 30 years or more, depending on maintenance and environmental conditions. Their durable construction, featuring laminated glass and reinforced frames, ensures they can withstand Florida’s harsh weather, including hurricanes and intense sun exposure. Regular cleaning, inspecting seals, and addressing minor wear can help maximize their longevity.

In South Florida, installing impact windows or equivalent hurricane protection is required by the Florida Building Code (FBC) in specific areas, particularly where the risk of hurricanes and high winds is highest. Here’s where they are mandated:

1. Miami-Dade County

  • Required in all areas due to the designation as a High-Velocity Hurricane Zone (HVHZ).
  • All new construction or window replacements must use impact-rated windows or have approved storm shutters.

2. Broward County

  • Like Miami-Dade, Broward is also in the HVHZ, so impact windows or shutters are mandatory for all homes and buildings.

3. Coastal and Windborne Debris Regions

In other parts of South Florida, such as Palm Beach County:

  • Impact windows or shutters are required in areas within one mile of the coast where wind speeds are 140 mph or higher, or in designated Windborne Debris Regions.

Even in areas where impact windows aren’t explicitly required, many homeowners opt for them due to their continuous protection, convenience, and additional benefits like energy efficiency and noise reduction.
